As a member of the Black Arts Movement in the 1960s and 1970s, Betye Saar emerged as one the most incisive visual artists to address issues of race and history in the United States. In LACMA’s gallery devoted to art of the Pacific, the American artist finds much intrigue in the mysterious works on display.
